Spacious. Secure. Durable. The Lunar Duo – Outfitter is the perfect lightweight shelter at the perfect price.
The Lunar Duo – Outfitter provides the backcountry traveler with an unsurpassed amount of space, comfort, and durability at a low cost. Invite the gang over for a hand of cards – there’s plenty of room. And with the durable 190T Polyester construction, you don’t have to worry about Fido’s claws causing any damage, so invite him along, too.
*To completely repel water, shelters need to have sealer applied to the seams before use.
*We do not offer Seam Sealing Service for our Skyscape Scout and Lunar Duo Outfitter. These shelters are made of 190T Polyurethane coated polyester that requires Gear Aid's Seam Grip Plus FC to seam seal.
Three Words Describe the Lunar Duo:
This tent is at home in a campground as much as a top a windswept ridge and large enough for four adults to sit and play a game of cards. No matter how bad the weather, you can batten down the hatches for a comfortable nights sleep. Lunar Duo offers no compromises despite the fact that it’s less than half the weight of your traditional tent.
The Lunar Duo offers the most interior room of any tent in its class and weight range. Dual curved poles located on either side create a unique arched roof. Combined with a tent height of 45 inches and width of 54 inches leaves so much interior space you've got room to spare.
With dual oversize vestibules, each person has plenty of weatherproof storage for gear. The Lunar Duo's two vestibules can be deployed to multiple positions. When fully open, it provides maximum cross ventilation, keeping you cool and those pesky mosquitoes at bay. They can be raised or lowered, ensuring that you can achieve the optimum configuration for the weather you're likely to encounter. The Lunar Duo's vertical sidewalls prevent rain falling into the tent.
Like all our shelters it is designed to be pitched with adjustable trekking poles or with our fixed length aluminum or carbon fiber poles (sold separately).

Worked really well and. Packs nice
Ny boyfriend is 6'4" and we both have plenty of space to stretch out.
This tent is highly weatherproof, livable and durable. I’ve put it through the ringer over seven years. On the Grand Teton we brought it to the lower saddle where winds were so strong they were snapping regular tent poles. Heavy rains have turned into an enjoyable time as there’s room for two of us to maneuver, assured that our gear is protected and accessible. It’s versatile. I dragged it through 9 days on the Sierra High route with cord tied to each corner to lash to rocks, leaving the stakes behind. It pitches nicely if you put in a little care. I enjoy that aspect of it (and all tarp based tents). I have ultralight options when the grams count, but if comfort and protection from the elements for me and a partner is a priority, this is coming along.
This tent is a great intro backpacking tent. Given the price point no other tent can compete with its size and weight. I love the flooring, no vestibule space. Sets up fast with minor adjustments afterward.
My two qualms is that when distributing the weight with a partner one person Carries the 3.5 lbs and other just stakes, and two light support poles. The other is the zippers. They are a little cheap feeling/bulky and their action isn't what I had hoped.
Overall pleased and happy to say it faired Well on my first weekend trip!
I have always loved camping but have just recently started to gear up for backpacking and was struggling with the right tent to buy. I did months of research and ended up choosing the Duo Outfitter - which really wasn’t even on my radar at all! To me, this was the perfect 2-person tent (and yes, this is ACTUALLY a 2-person tent) that balanced price, weight and craftsmanship. I have yet to take it on an overnighter, but I finally got around to seam sealing it and no leaks so far! Woohoo! From all of the tents on the market, I feel this really checked all the boxes in terms of a good, affordable tent to transition from car camping to backpacking, while still being able to fit plenty of gear or a second person. Shipping was super fast and SMD included some patch material, a set up guide and some extra cordage for the guy lines. This is my first ever trekking pole tent, and set up was far easier than I expected. I’m so glad I chose a product from a cottage company like SMD instead of one of the various other companies on Amazon or the like. Hoping one day I will add the Lunar Solo to my gear closet as well. Thank you, Six Moons!!!
