"HA true backpacking umbrella! Lightweight and durable. I am looking forward to testing it in the sun as well as the rain." - Brian

6.8 oz - 193 g Trekking Umbrella

Walking across deserts in the blazing sun or through summer rain showers shouldn't be a misery.

The Silver Shadow Series provides a large reflective surface on top to deflect sunlight and a black underside to absorb wandering rays, allowing you to walk cooler and better protected.  Its coating sheds water easily, eliminating the need to wear sweaty rain gear.

Redesigned for 2019 we have expanded the Silver Shadow into a line of umbrellas that offers a variety of options and prices.

Overview

The Silver Shadow Carbon is the crown jewel of hiking umbrellas. A sleek, carbon fiber shaft, spreader, and ribs drop the weight of this umbrella to a mere 6.8 oz while maintaining full coverage. Its rigid shaft insures that it won't unexpectedly collapse and its simple construction ensures years of trouble-free use. The simple design with minimal parts keeps it light and durable. There are simply fewer things to break or malfunction.

Wherever you travel, a Silver Shadow should be part of your kit!

Fantastic and light.

Very nice umbrella, holds up to atmospheric river in Nor Cal this week. Heavy wind no issues. Should have purchased sooner.

Lightweight and Durable

I haven’t been hiking with it yet, only around the block. I plan to take this for sun and rain protection during a 100-mile Uinta Highline Trail hike late summer. Above 10,000 feet for a week, it’ll be nice to escape the sunshine.

My Favorite Piece of Rain & Sun Gear

This umbrella was one of the best purchases I made for my AT thru hike. At first, I considered it a luxury item like so many other hikers. After just a few days of rain, it very quickly moved from want to necessity. Many bedraggled and drenched hikers made their envy known on the coldest and rainiest of days.

Yes, on pouring days, this will do nothing to keep you dry from the chest down. But it's a huge morale boost to keep the head and face out of the rain and the phone's touch screen still functional too. I still use it in conjunction with a rain jacket/wind breaker and pack cover for a more thorough seal. Twice it saved my skull in sudden hail storms. On warmer rainy days it's perfect rain protection with the jacket off so you won't sweat out. I even used it for extra cover in a close-to-trail "nature calls" emergency. But it really earned its keep value on an unexpectedly hot and sunny day in early spring before the Tennessee trees donned their leaves. For this, I've heard it called a "sunbrella".

At a meager 6 oz it still boasts the structural integrity of a 3 lb golf umbrella. I crashed through many branches, even headbutting it into half-downed trees without a single break or tear. It's worth the extra cost and minimal weight to get the hardware for attaching it to your pack and going hands-free to keep using trekking poles. I might be in a minority, but this cool umbrella has become a permanent part of my long hike pack out.

Worked great

No complaints, light, and worked well and has not shown any signs of wear after the first 3 day trip (strapped outside my pack when not in use).

Solid Essential Equipment

The umbrella is very well constructed and can't wait to put it to the test on the trail in February.
