Redesigned for 2019 we have expanded the Silver Shadow into a line of umbrellas that offers a variety of options and prices.
Walking across deserts in the blazing sun or through summer rain showers shouldn't be a misery. The Silver Shadow Series provides a large reflective surface on top to deflect sunlight and a black underside to absorb wandering rays, allowing you to walk cooler and better protected. Its coating sheds water easily, eliminating the need to wear sweaty rain gear.
The Silver Shadow Mini is the collapsible, compact umbrella in our line. Packing to 40% the length of our other umbrellas, it is ideal for travel or when space is paramount.
Wherever you travel, a Silver Shadow should be part of your kit!
We were planning a trek and our decades old lightweight hiking umbrellas (that are no longer made) had finally met heir doom. Looking for a reasonable replacement, we found these. They are even lighter than the old ones. They worked perfectly well for both sun shield and for rain. The size is perfect and they fit very nicely on a pack or even in a pocket. We are very happy with that. Any negatives? Well, frankly the handle is a little small and can get tiring to hold. But, making it bigger would increase the size and weight so this is a good compromise. Opening and closing is a bit funky because one needs to manually unfold the ribs prior to opening, but making the rib one piece would, by definition make the folded length too long for our needs and making that unfolding part of the mechanical process would only add to the weight. Now the really important part of the review......one of the Velcro tabs ripped off the dome with the first use. Maybe a manufacturing issue? Six Moon Designs replaced the umbrella with no hesitation or shipping charge. I would recommend these guys and this product to anyone.
I was blown away by the umbrella and it’s performance. It’s an amazing option for urban hiking and trail hiking alike
I've always found it oppressive to endure a direct summer sun even in Minnesota, and this really provides a solution to that problem. It's so small that it doesn't bother me to add it even to my EDC. In my hiking pack, it fits in a side pocket with a Nalgene or fuel bottle, and doesn't protrude much higher. It feels a bit flimsy in a stiff breeze, but I imagine that the outer set of struts would invert if overcome, as that's the direction they fold when packing down. Overall, I think that this is a pretty good umbrella for its price point.
