6.8 oz - 193 g Trekking Umbrella
Redesigned for 2019 we have expanded the Silver Shadow into a line of umbrellas that offers a variety of options and prices.
Walking across deserts in the blazing sun or through summer rain showers shouldn't be a misery. The Silver Shadow Series provides a large reflective surface on top to deflect sunlight and a black underside to absorb wandering rays, allowing you to walk cooler and better protected. Its coating sheds water easily, eliminating the need to wear sweaty rain gear.
The Silver Shadow Carbon is the crown jewel of hiking umbrellas. A sleek, carbon fiber shaft, spreader, and ribs drop the weight of this umbrella to a mere 6.8 oz while maintaining full coverage. Its rigid shaft insures that it won't unexpectedly collapse and its simple construction ensures years of trouble-free use. The simple design with minimal parts keeps it light and durable. There are simply fewer things to break or malfunction.
Wherever you travel, a Silver Shadow should be part of your kit!

I live (and hike) in the desert. I also walk my dog three times a day. I bought an inexpensive collapsible sun umbrella online which did an okay job with sun protection but was very vulnerable to wind. I upgraded to Six Moons Carbon. I'm finding that because of the sturdy carbon fiber build it is much more resistant to wind while remaining ultra-lite. I also like the durable open and closing action. I also plan to use it as a travel umbrella.
I used it on the desert section of the pct. While it doesn’t keep you cool, it does keep the sun off of you. Under the umbrella it’s still going to be hot because the heat from the sun reflects off of the sand under you. But the protection it provides from direct exposure from the sun does make a difference. Umbrella is light and not cumbersome. Would recommend if you are hiking in direct sunlight.
Very light weight but sturdy. Graphite shaft is the key. Love the handle’s design. I am so impressed, I ordered one for my sister as a birthday present. Everyone needing protection from the sun should consider this.
I purchased this recently while enduring a wetter-than-normal spring in the Pacific Northwest to avoid taking the time to put my rain gear on. It has done a fabulous job of keeping me and my pack (daypack size as well as back packing size) dry. The straps they sell for hands-free use work great, too. I have used it in moderate wind and just pointed it downward a bit into the wind and it performed well. I am looking forward to using it in sunny weather to keep me cool when that weather arrives! This is my favorite piece of new gear and I highly recommend it!
I thought long and hard whether I really needed an umbrella for my CT section hike this summer. I am so glad I decided I do need it. I've used it on shake down hikes and it is a game changer. Very light weight. Makes a huge difference hiking in the heat. Feels sturdy. I love it!
