Spacious. Secure. Ultralight. The Lunar Duo – Explorer redefines what a single wall, ultralight tent can be.

With an unsurpassed space-to-weight ratio, it’s no wonder the Lunar Duo - Explorer is affectionately referred to as The Backcountry Palace. The pitch design provides a lot of interior space, and that doesn’t even include the two vestibules. It’s the perfect tent for anyone looking for livability without greatly compromising weight.

*To completely repel water, shelters need to have sealer applied to the seams before use.
*Shelters including a seam sealing service may not ship immediately.

Three Words Describe the Lunar Duo

Spacious This tent is at home in a campground as much as a top a windswept ridge and large enough for four adults to sit and play a game of cards.
Secure No matter how bad the weather, you can batten down the hatches for a comfortable nights sleep.
Ultralight Lunar Duo offers no compromises despite the fact that it’s less than half the weight of your traditional tent.

The Lunar Duo offers the most interior room of any tent in its class and weight range. Dual curved poles located on either side create a unique arched roof. Combined with a tent height of 45 inches and width of 54 inches leaves so much interior space you've got room to spare.

With dual oversize vestibules, each person has plenty of weatherproof storage for gear. The Lunar Duo's two vestibules can be deployed to multiple positions. When fully open, it provides maximum cross ventilation, keeping you cool and those pesky mosquitoes at bay. They can be raised or lowered, ensuring that you can achieve the optimum configuration for the weather you're likely to encounter. The Lunar Duo's vertical sidewalls prevent rain falling into the tent.

Like all our shelters it is designed to be pitched with adjustable trekking poles or with our fixed length aluminum or carbon fiber poles (sold separately).

  • Dual Vestibules provides excellent gear protection.
  • High Vents minimize condensation formation.
  • Dual Entry ensures you have an available door.
  • Easy Tension Adjustment makes re-tension your tent easy.
  • Floating Canopy allows the canopy to be set to different heights.
  • Dual Hiking Pole Support
  • Dual Cargo Pockets.
  • Extremely Easy Setup in less than five minutes under any conditions.

The Lunar Duo - Explorer tent is pretty awesome

I took this tent on a hiking trip with my son on the 4-Pass Loop trail in the Maroon Bells Wilderness Area in Colorado recently. The first night it rained pretty heavy together with some pretty good gusts of wind. This tent (although not setup entirely great by this first-timer) handled the conditions with ease, and we and our gear stayed dry all night. I was surprised by how much headroom and legroom (can stow extra gear and keep it dry) there was in the tent. My son & I are each about 5' 10". The tent is also pretty light and fits in the side ouch of the Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60 pack, which is pretty awesome.

It took us about 5 minutes to pitch once we got the hang of it. Although I'm sure it wasn't necessary, we used a an extra footprint just to keep the tent as pristine as possible.

I would recommend this tent to anyone that requires a lightweight 2-person tent, but still wants some of the extra features (dual doors, extra space / room, etc.)....Love it -- will use again.

Lunar duo review

I have the lunar tent and was looking for a lighter 2 person. Have been very happy with the lunar so I decided on the duo. Works just as well as the single person. The only complaint that I would make is that The Tyvek footprint is too short. Several inches on either end of the tent base lay on the ground. In my experience the footprint should at least be the size of the base. Going to have to find some house wrap and make my own. The $35 for the footprint isn’t worth it save your $. But that would not stop me from recommending this tent. Which I have already told a few friends.

Pros-Well made, lite weight. Con-tricky setup

Well made product. Low weight trade off is setup, especially in wind, difficult.

Excellent Shelter

I used this tent on a 420 mile trek this summer. The set up and breakdown was fast and easy with a little practice. The vestibule doors options provided great rain protection and cross ventilation and can be closed up tight in a strong wind. The inside is spacious so I could spread my gear out with plenty of headroom to sit up in my chair. The dual doors and screening made entry and exit a bug free breeze and the bath tub floor was easy to keep clean of debris. I will be putting plenty of miles on with this tent!

Totally satisfied

We've had this tent for 1 year 3 months and have camped about 15 nights in it. We love it. We've had it in 30F nights and with a proper sleep system, no concerns about staying warm. In 90F it's been hot but not worse than expected - ventilation is great, but the outside air is still hot. It's been in driving rain and 20 gusting to 30mph winds (do NOT face the doors toward the wind!). There's been a trace of condensation on the inside I think mostly due to cool air and our exhaling, but nothing was wet and it dried quickly in the morning. We both like that its small and you can still sit up in it. It's easy to put up, though a tiny bit challenging in windy conditions if you're setting it up by yourself - it's very light. But we've done all that and can't wait to go out with it again.
Don't have any doubts about the quality or design of this tent!
