CAROL "KIWILEGS" WILSON
Carol "kiwilegs" Wilson was born and raised in New Zealand, where she spent her childhood exploring, swimming and loving the outdoors. After moving to the Northwest in the early 90's, she discovered the Mount Hood National Forest and portions of the Pacific Crest Trail that reminded her of home, and a love of backpacking and hiking began. After her children were grown and starting their own families, she decided in 2012 at the age of 57 she would hike the entire Pacific Crest Trail, which she completed over two summers. This lit a fire under her, and the goal of achieving her triple crown was born. In 2018 she completed the Appalachian trail and has plans to start the Continental Divide in April of 2020.
Carol loves a challenge - so when the opportunity presented itself in 2015 to bike across America, even though she was not a cyclist - she bought herself a bike and rode from Virginia to Oregon on the TransAmerica bike route, finishing in 2.5 months.
While cycling, competitive walking and swimming are all hobbies, her passion definitely remains in long-distance hiking. Her favorite hikes include the Timberline trail on Mount Hood, the Wonderland Trail in Washington and any portion of the PCT. After she completes her triple crown this year, her future goals include hiking the Florida trail with her husband and many other trails throughout the U.S.
