6.8 oz - 193 g Trekking Sun Umbrella
Walking across deserts in the blazing sun or through summer rain showers shouldn't be a misery. The Silver Shadow Series provides a large reflective surface on top to deflect sunlight and a black underside to absorb wandering rays, allowing you to walk cooler and better protected. Its coating sheds water easily, eliminating the need to wear sweaty rain gear.
The Silver Shadow Mini is the collapsible, compact umbrella in our line. Packing to 40% the length of our other umbrellas, it is ideal for travel or when space is paramount.
Wherever you travel, a Silver Shadow should be part of your kit!
Mini Replacement Handle:
Six Moon Designs also now offers an optional replacement handle for this mini Umbrella. The Replacement handle (Sold Separately) gives you a more comfortable EVA foam grip to hold onto for longer hikes. As an added bonus the new handle makes this umbrella work much better with the Hands Free Kit.

I bought this to use in my upcoming walk in Chemin Le Puey in France and because it fits in my small suitcase for check in. I already have a non-foldable sun umbrella - unfortunately too long to take with me - but it’s much better constructed and easier to use.
Mini in weight only, the size is generous - makes a big difference in keeping me cool. The foam handle is essential for comfort, might as well be standard. If I leave the outer sections of the ribs connected at all times, it closes to a medium size and opens quickly. I’ll only need the smallest fold for minimalist packing. Have recommended it to friends!
Pros: After waking up in my tent to steady rain, it was SO nice to stay dry while I popped out to "use the bathroom" and go back inside without a wet rain jacket. Also, super nice when cooking to keep fingers dry. This umbrella also kept me cool when the sun came out - my hiking partners had sweat rolling down their faces and I was still cool and dry. I didn't have to stop as often to put on or take off clothes to regulate temperature - I had a lot more leeway to stay comfortable with the umbrella.
Cons: I won't use in strong winds as it probably would not hold up. The outermost ribs/spokes need some guidance as you open the umbrella so they curve down and don't stick up. Those same ribs/spokes also need to be folded back up manually when closing the umbrella. Essentially, the umbrella is not a completely automatic quick open-close like normal umbrellas. Getting the umbrella wrapped back up to fit in the bag also requires some manual folding of the fabric so the strap can reach all the way around to secure. This takes a little extra time.
I haven’t used this umbrella for it’s intended purpose yet, but it’s a great design for a full coverage umbrella in a small package that would basically fit in your pocket. This one will go with me on a plane to France for another go on the Camino de Santiago next Spring. I also have the big brother to the mini, and while I like it’s weight, color, and size, I don’t want to have to deal with it on an airplane. But I’m expecting a long relationship with both. Thanks Six Moon Designs.
