Wild Oasis - 13 Ounce Shelter

Price: $175

Description

The Wild Oasis is a lean, mean, no frills, down and dirty shelter for ultralight hikers on the move. It packs so small and light it might literally get lost in your pack.

The Wild Oasis is large enough for a comfortable nights rest without the claustrophobia of a small tarp. With it's full 360 degree protection there's no need to carry an additional bivy.

The Wild Oasis's No-See-Um skirt perimeter eliminates the need to carry a bug net to keep away those pesky mosquitoes. The skirt's generous 18 inch width allows you significant flexibility in setting up the shelter at different heights. The skirt is tapered cut to minimize it's tendency to roll beyond the edge of the canopy and become a rain wick.

The Wild Oasis's zippered entry makes getting in and out of the shelter a breeze.

The Wild Oasis sets up using a single hiking pole or optional Carbon Fiber pole. If you want to eliminate the interior pole you can hang it from a tree limb.

Like a tarp, the Wild Oasis can be setup at different heights. Low when the weather threatens or high on nice nights to get maximum ventilation.

Features

  • Zippered Entry
  • Full 18" No-See-Um Skirt allows you to setup the shelter at different height and still have excellent bug protection.
  • High Vent provides for moisture to escape to minimize condensation.
  • Single Pole Setup with hexagonal shape provides maximum protection at minimum weight
  • Easy Setup

WILD OASIS GONE EVERYWHERE
Alaska 11/6/2009
Justin: I used the Wild Oasis on a 600 mile PCT section Hike, on the Napali Coast in Hawaii, and in the forests and tundra in Alaska. Overall I have to agree with the other reviews that this is an awesome shelter. The only problem I have encountered is using the carbon fiber pole to set it up in places with 'less than solid' ground (i.e. Tundra, sand, forest bogs, etc). Other than that its kept me dry and happy everywhere I have taken it.

GREAT SHELTER
CT 10/21/2009
Ellie: I used my Oasis on my my CDT hiker of over 2,000 miles. This was an awesome little shelter, and held up great in almost all weather. The only drawback was condensation, but this is true for any silnylon shelter. Also a little too small for anyone over about 5'11, as the tarp rests on the sleeping bag and can cause it to become too wet if there is a lot of condensation. These were minor issues though, and I would definitely use it again.

NASTY NIGHT ON CANADA'S LAKE SUPERIOR SHORE
Between Lakes Michigan and Superior 6/23/2009
Tiger: Warp Bay thunderstorm. Everyone else had 5+pound tents.I had my W'Oasis. Dry and Happy all night long. The fellas were impressed. More importantly, so was I.:)

FINALLY USED IN THE RAIN
West Virginia 6/20/2009
Pat: Well, I finally got some major rain to try my Wild Oasis out in. Condensation was pretty bad, but the conditions were pretty bad too. We were base camping in the Dolly Sods Wilderness area in early May. The ground was saturated, it was cool and we were surrounded by laurel and spruce and had occasional rain, mist and fog; all conditions that make condensation bad. I had to wipe the wall/ceiling a few times each night, but I stayed dry. Still impressed with this shelter after using about 10 or so nights since August 2008.

MY WILD OASIS ON THE PCT
Seattle, WA 2/8/2009
Jake: I used the Wild Oasis for about half of my 2008 PCT thru-hike, including all of Washington State. Despite carrying my Wild Oasis 1000+ miles this last summer, it is still in perfect shape. It sheds rain and wind well, and had room enough for 2 in a pinch. I would definitely use it for another thru-hike.

I had 2 concerns with it. I had better luck pitching it with an adjustable trekking pole than with the optional carbon fiber pole, I would have to wedge something to under the pole to pitch it high enough. Secondly, I am 6'1" and found that either my feet or head would brush the bottom of the tent when I had to pitch it low for wind and rain, which caused some condensation issues, so I would not recommend the tent for anyone taller than me. I HAVE ARRIVED
Idaho 11/11/2008
Ron: the Wild Oasis is the solution that I've been searcing for since I began trying to go ultralight. Even a 2.5 - 3 pound 'ultralight' tent can feel heavy and bulky in my pack. I've used the W.O. 4 times, with mostly good results. I still haven't mastered the angle of the pole guyline to get the vestibule to close properly. The netting is a great feature. One night of rain experienced, and I was comfortable and dry inside. Great product.

FOLLOW UP AFTER MORE USE
West Virginia 11/6/2008
Pat: I have now used my wild oasis on about a half dozen trips. Still no rain (Go figure!). I still love this shelter. I can set it up before my friends can get their tents of the stuff sack and packed back up before they get the rain fly off. Sweet! Takes up very little pack space, keeps skeeters at bay and cuts the wind very well. Definitely glad I bought this shelter. It is the only shelter I have used since I received it. Did not use it on my AT hike, slept in shelters, but it was there just in case. My friends carried 5 pounds of tent just in case. I was much happier.

LOVE THIS SHELTER
CA 11/2/2008
Hugh: I've used my Wild Oasis on several trips now and I love this shelter. It has shed very strong wind, kept me dry in the rain and let me sleep in peace on some very buggy nights. All this for 17 ounces including stakes and a ground sheet. I also love that I can pitch it in under 5 minutes even in the wind.

NICE.
West Virginia 7/13/2008
Pat: Had the chance to take my Wild Oasis out this weekend. Weather was good. Quick set up, enough space for me and gear. Only potential issue is lack of cap to keep trekking pole tip from poking hole in canopy, but I fixed this with a strategically placed bottle cap. Impression is that this will be my shelter of choice for multiday trips.

BANISH CLAUSTROPHOBIA
Texas, USA 7/10/2008
Mark: I'll never go back to a Bivy and tarp again ..... This is one piece of gear that ROCKS. Bypass the shelter and sleep on the soft ground ... no bugs, no rain, and a good nights sleep. Especially for those of us that are claustrophobic in a Bivy

ULTRALIGHT PERFECTION
Tucson, AZ 9/30/2007
Zack: The Wild Oasis is the best shelter I have ever owned, and is without doubt my favorite piece of gear. In fact, it has curbed my expensive addiction to experimenting with other tarp/bivy setups; for the first time I am completely satisfied with my shelter set up. This thing sheds weather like champ, holds the gnats and flies at bay, pitches quickly (once you get the hang of it), and best of all weighs next to nothing. After seam sealing and the addition of ti stakes and a GG polycro ground cloth, my W.O. weighs in at 17 oz (with no need for a bivy/ mosquito net)! Cheers!

GREAT SHELTER!
BC, Canada 9/14/2007
mateo: We really like the Wild Oasis. I added a guyline kit to let it be set up higher and make room for two people plus gear. We used it on a two-week packrafting trip this summer with tons of rain and bugs. It worked well, but we wished that the velcro on the noseeum-mesh closure was full length. It would be nice if the pole-tip-holder was capped with some cordura or something to save the fly from getting punctured (like ours). A slightly larger two-person version with 6-10 more inches of netting would be good. Overall, this one-pound, two-person, complete shelter rocks! Thanks

A TRUE OASIS. LIGHT, SMART, AND SOLID.
Between Lakes Michigan and Superior 6/5/2007
Tiger: a truly smart design, well executed. The w'oasis pitches taut, holds up well in weather, and has amazing room inside. It is so light and roomy that in comparison a bivy sack would seem like punishment. Thank you, sixmoons, for a fantastic product. I am so pleased I am buying a second one. 5 stars! Great job!
