Description

The Traveler was designed by the Six Moon Designs - Skunk Works over a two year period. It's concept originated from a trip Six Moon Designs founder Ron Moak took along the famed Camino de Santiago in northern Spain. This route is traveled by tens of thousands of pilgrims each year. However, most people carried packs designed more strictly for backcountry use. In addition to travel on the Camino, we traveled 10's of thousands of miles on both international and domestic flights. We wanted to ensure that the pack would work well under conditions any world traveler might likely expect.

Most importantly, The Traveler needed to comfortably carry any load people might demand. Work well in the many Alburges and Hotels people stay in along their journey. Plus it needed to be comfortable as people traveled great distances to by plane, trains and buss to the remote start of the Camino.

Key to the development of the Traveler was to make sure that it maintained it's comfort when the occasion requires one to carry heavy loads. It also needed to transition easily to a travel pack that helps one to comfortable negotiate airports.

Unlike normal backpacks, all of the important outside pockets on the Traveler are fully zippered with waterproof zippers. This provides for greater security and minimizes the loss of valuable gear.

The Front Panel opens up fully to provide access to a padded notebook/tablet pocket. Along with a number of additional pockets to hold maps, passports and other miscellaneous items. The Traveler becomes a virtual office that allows you to work anywhere in the world.

The Traveler is a panel loading pack. This provides easy access to all of your gear without having to dig through the top of the pack to locate something at the bottom. The Traveler is unique compared to traditional Panel Loaders because instead of opening from the front it open from the rear. This allows you to lay the pack flat and flip the harness out of your way. Making it easier to locate and organize your gear.

The harness layout of The Traveler has been modified to make it easier to configure for travel. The hip belt is easily removable and can be stored inside of your pack when not needed. The shoulder straps can easily be restrained to keep them out of the way. A convenient handle on the side of the pack makes carrying it through security easier.

One trip in, I like it.

I took this on a recent trip and it performed well. I'm 6' 185ish and the medium belt/large straps were just fine, had plenty extra to adjust. I didn't overstuff it, and could have carried more, but didn't want to over do on a first trip just to judge gate agents, etc.. I had a full change of clothes, 2-jackets, shoes, and some essentials in case the checked bag didn't make it. It will expand bigger than standard airline allowances, just be aware and that's a feature. It is squishy enough to adjust a bit, and the side/top straps tend to tighten it up. I wore it through airports then pulled the hip belt at the gate and tied the straps down and carried it in by the handle. Didn't get a look on any flight and fit right in the overhead. I also carried a SMD E-Bag for tech, a fine combo. Ill risk more "stuff" on future travels. Another positive is wearing a pack while rolling a larger and/or more traditional carry on, freed up hands and gave us options on movement. I might like the bottle holders a bit bigger/stretchy, and if the front pocket were RFID, that would be a positive, but I had both covered in other areas. So far, so good. I like it!

An Amazing Bag for Travel that holds up very well in the Backcountry!

This travel bag replaced our Orpsrey Farpoint 55L, and we haven't looked back. This Bag opens like a suitcase, which is essential for long term travel (who wants to live out of a top-loader for years on the road?) Unlike our prior travel bag this bag has a more robust suspension and padded shoulder harness, which actually held up pretty well in the back country. The external pockets, zippers, and compartments make for quick access without having to open the entire bag. The internal compartment also has numerous compartments that are completely separated by a see-through mesh material. The bag is shorter and wider than my last bag and took some getting used to but the happed hip belt makes all the difference...you won't find a bag designed for long-term travel that is as comfortable as this. Also this bag performed very well in the backcountry. We spent 2 weeks hiking The Complete O Circuit in Torres del Paine, Southern Patagonia and 2 weeks hiking the Lycian Way route in Western Turkey. You can read about our adventures and see our gear at work in these two blog articles. You'll also see how we used our amazing Haven and Haven NetTent combo. SIMPLY AMAZING!
