Skyscape Scout

40 oz - 1134 g Solo Tent

The Skyscape Scout is mirrored after our Skyscape Trekker in design and features. Constructing the shelter around polyurethane coated 190T Polyester reduces the price considerably for only a small weight and packed size penalty. The Skyscape Scout is a great option for budget hikers getting into lightweight backpacking.

*To completely repel water, shelters need to have sealer applied to the seams before use.

  • New for 2018 the Skyscape Scout now features new longer 3mm cord rear guy outs (not shown in photos) which provide improved interior height at the foot and increased ventilation at the rear.  Also new is the addition of reflective guy outs all around.

All Skyscape models utilize a dual fixed length 45" or 115 cm pole support structure to create an A-frame like structure. This can be achieved through the use of trekking poles or our collapsible Aluminum and Carbon Fiber Poles (Sold Separately). While both poles work well with the Scout, the Aluminum poles are more lower in price, while our Carbon Fiber poles are half the weight.

  • The dual pole structure is slightly offset from the center of the tent. The offset yields extra head room when lying down, reducing that claustrophobic feeling. Further, it allows the Skyscape to be extremely rigid when guyed out, creating a structure capable of riding out the worst storms.

The Skyscape employs Hybrid Double Wall construction. Over 80% of the canopy is separated from you by a mesh wall, keeping that wet canopy at bay. The Hybrid Double Wall construction allows the vestibules roll back. On warm summer nights, convert the Skyscape into a net tent, pesky bugs stay outside while you enjoy the views and breezes.

The Skyscape's large side entry door lets you easily enter the tent or retrieve gear . With floor length over 100 inches, the Skyscape accommodates the tallest hikers. You can carry a light tent and still sleep well.

    Scout Model

The canopy and floor of the Scout are constructed with 190T Polyester. Since this fabric is used in literally millions of tents, it is very cost effective. Incorporating Polyester fabric into the Scoutmakes it the most affordable ultralight tent on the market today.

The Scout is perfect for those starting to explore the world of ultralight travel.

    Great Solo Tent

I am 6'-8", 270 lbs and a side sleeper and I have no problems fitting in this tent. Great solo tent for someone getting back into backpacking. Easy to setup and is stable in windy conditions when setup properly. I highly recommend this tent.

    Saved my skin

I purchased this tent for a pack hunting trip. The first night we got hammered with a thunderstorm and 60+ wind. It was the last tent standing and I was dry and happy. Not gonna lie, I was nervous that night. Worst mountain rain I had ever encountered in the backcountry. Skyscape Scout held up perfectly! For whatever price, this tent impressed.

    Impressive performance!

Just took my Scout on its maiden voyage on the AT down in North Carolina. Given the price point, weight and quality construction, I could not be more pleased. Given the fact that this is primarily a mesh tent with enough nylon to provide super rain shelter, condensation was a non-issue. This is a great little tent. The sleeves to insert your two hiking poles take some getting used to, but my pitches were taut, and there is ample room for one. The vestibules are not huge, but large enough. At 2.5 pounds and $135, what’s not to like? Thanks, SMD!!!! I’m a happy camper.

    Much Better Than Expected

I was looking for something that wouldn’t break the bank to start experimenting with a trekking pole tent. I’ve used this a few times now and have been pleasantly surprised. There was plenty of room for me and my pack. I have now added the lighter one to my Christmas list! Fingers crossed that I get it!

    Skyscape - Scout

Awesome tent for the price. I was looking to lighten my load and free up some space in my pack without spending a fortune or loosing the benefits of an enclosed shelter. My other consideration was space due to the fact I am 6 foot 4 inch and 220lbs. My Scout was delivered quickly so I wasted no time in spending a couple of nights in the backyard prior to a real test in Yosemite. First this tent is so easy to pitch, 3 stakes to peg it out, insert the two poles, stake out the vestibules and you are good to go in a couple of minutes. I haven't sealed the seams, however even with 30 mins exposure to lawn sprinklers there was no leakage. Once inside there is plenty of room for a full size air pad, if you are taller you need to slide your pad to the head end to keep your feet off the tent at the other end yet even in this configuration there is still room for your essentials inside the tent. Next up Yosemite, I am glad to report that my initial confidence in this tent was confirmed after a few nights in the Sierras, no bugs are ants got in the tent and no condensation issues. I also got a lot of positive comments on the Scout from other backpackers who had never heard of Six Moons. I Would definitely recommend this tent for other solo backpackers who are aren't willing to sacrifice the comfort of a tent and go for a simple tarp setup. The only question is Scout or Trekker? If you want a some extra durability the Scout the is perfect.
