⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Durable Thru Hiking Tent!

"This tent was my shelter for the entire Pacific Crest Trail when I walked it in 2020. The dual wall system (mesh and tarp setup) was great for preventing condensation. The ability to setup just the mesh or the tarp was nice and was useful in a variety of situations. After hiking the PCT with this setup, the tent held up great and I didn’t have any issues that would stop me from being able to use it on further hikes." - Larry

Two-Person Backpacking Tarp

The Haven Bundle is an ultra-versatile set up with a traditional feel you are already comfortable with – and it’s lightweight, too.

The Haven Bundle includes the Haven and Haven NetTent, giving you the versatility to set out on any trip. Combined, the two shelters form a fully enclosed, two-person, double-walled tent with a bathtub floor. They can be set up together or separately for a wide range of configurations to suit any backcountry adventure.

*To completely repel water, shelters need to have sealer applied to the seams before use.
*Shelters including a seam sealing service may not ship immediately.
NOTE: The Haven Zero-G Tarp is not compatible with the updated Haven NetTent. The Haven Zero-G Tarp is compatible with the Haven NetTent (Closeout).

The Haven Bundle is designed so that the NetTent hangs from the tarp rather than be supported directly by the poles. This configuration allows the tarp to be set up first or taken down last, keeping the inside of the tent dry in rainy conditions. If desired the Haven Combo can also be stored clipped together for even faster setup and takedown.

Utilizing trekking poles for support, or our optional collapsible poles, the Haven Bundle has near-vertical sidewalls, further maximizing internal space. Dual tabs on either side of the canopy allow the Haven Tarp to be hung from a line between two trees, eliminating the need for poles altogether.

The two-pole design allows for a 48" wide canopy offering tremendous amounts of headroom. The peak is also offset toward the head, raising the canopy further from one's face and moving the headroom to provide a more natural sitting area.

The Haven Bundle is equipped with two entrances and two vestibules providing convenience and storage space for both parties. The streamlined design provides maximum protection for minimum weight.

Full 360-degree protection allows this tarp to provide enhanced security when compared to a traditional flat tarp.

High Vent helps remove excess moisture build-up.

Zipper Vestibule Closure makes opening and closing the vestibule a snap.

Dual Side Entry makes entering and exiting easy.

Easy Tension Adjustment makes keeping the tent taut a trivial task that can be accomplished while still in your sleeping bag. Re-tension straps have been added to all tie out points.

Floating Canopy allows the canopy to be set to different heights.

Optimized Sleeping Area is oriented to maximize usable space, ventilation, and view. A peak height of 45 inches gives you plenty of headroom.

Dual Pole Support significantly improves headroom and interior space.

Color Coordinated Attachment Points for quick NetTent set-up.

Canopy NetTent Connectors at Head and Foot

Ultra-light Waterproof Canopy is made from high strength 30 denier Silicone Nylon.

Extremely Easy Setup in less than two minutes under any conditions.

This Is An Awesome Tent

There are very few things that I could write that would do this tent justice. First I am a grandfather who is 6'4" - meaning big and old. This tent which was purchased to lighten my load performed brilliantly. I recently took this on a Father-Son backpacking trip in the Catskills in NY. The weather varied - the first night was extremely windy - so windy that the noise kept the whole camp up - think that trees would come down any minute. The second day was the opposite - 92 degrees and still. The Haven bundle performed flawlessly on both accounts. Not only did the tent keep me dry on the wet night (even though I had to set up in the rain), but it did not flap about in the wind as some of the other tents and tarps. On the second day, when it was so hot, the tent had such good ventilation as to be quite cool that night.

The tent packs tight - it is easy to set up - and is cavernous. I was a little concerned about the width (44 inches) which is narrower that my current free-standing tent. But because the walls are straight up, there is more moving around room. the same is true for the tie-outs (which I used both nights).

the only thing that I have to work - out is that the bathtub floor is as slippery as an ice rink. This has nothing to do with the design or the craftsmanship but is caused by the material used. I have some ideas - but any more would be very welcome

Overall this is easily a 10/10.

Astoundingly awesome

I found the Haven Bundle to be priced reasonably and a high quality shelter system that’s easy and enjoyable to use.

The tent is great but I'm an idiot

My first time switching to Tyvek and I tried to wash it on cold/delicate to help with the noise, but my crappy city studio apartment washing machine shredded the Tyvek! Looking back, I probably should've used my parent's front load washer back at home. So I'll have to reorder another Tyvek footprint and officially try it out to give a better review! So far everything else looks great, I live in a city and don't have many places to practice my setup. I tried it out in my friends backyard but didn't spend too much time tinkering with setup because I didn't have a footprint to protect my brand new tent. My Leki hiking poles fit perfectly into the sleeves which was my main concern. Very excited to break this thing in! My main point I want to get across is to be VERY careful with your Tyvek, don't be like me!

Could be better . . .

Used this new 2 person shelter system last week in the Grand Canyon for four nights. When I saw their were set up instructions in the stuff sacks I didn't bother searching any set up videos ahead of time. Watching some set up video would probably have helped, but come on, it's a non-freestanding tent, how hard can it be?

light weight.
Spacious for the size.

Poly ground sheet ripped the first time setting it up. Basically bought some lightweight plastic garbage I got to carry the remainder of the trip. I would recommend the tyvek ground cloth. Also, why was the poly sheet in two pieces, not a single footprint size piece? If had been windy I worried they could blow away and become litter.

The set up diagram and instructions indicate a head and a foot. It is nearly impossible to discern which is which. Recommendation, use a different colored webbing, string, toggle, etc. on one end of both the netting and the tarp. Example, make the foot end hardware red. This would speed up set up!

Add loops in the top of the net tent to add a ridge line to hang items at night. There are no pocket stashes to keep things from getting under your sleeping bag at night, so a ridge line would be nice with almost zero weight. I understand no stash pockets to save weight, but.
After multiple attempts each set up, we could not figure out how to attach both the tarp and netting corners to one stake. The netting loop lines were well inside the tarp and we saw no way they would reach the tarp corner stakes. We placed large rocks inside the string loops of the netting corners to keep it taut. Without rocks, or four additional stakes I don't know if we would have been able to keep the net tent taut.
I'll be watching some videos to see if I can discover what we apparently were doing wrong.

The toggles to hold the doors open could benefit from a different colored loop also. There are two loops and in the dark it was nearly impossible to untoggle the door to zip it shut at night without a headlamp.

Overall I think a light weight freestanding 2 person tent would better suit our needs. Faster set up, with some weight increase. The weight cost would be worth it for ease of set up.

Thank you for your in-depth review of your experience with the Haven Bundle.

We do have some answers to your questions.

The Polycro footprint comes in a two-pack, meaning two separate footprints are included. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell, but the polycro groundsheet does unfold once more than some customers will initially notice. This may have been true for you and could be why you were led to believe that both pieces were necessary to use with the Haven shelter. The polycro groundsheet is durable considering how lightweight it is. Durability and lightweight are seemingly at odds in most situations and this is why we always recommend treating lightweight equipment more cautiously than traditional, heavy backpacking equipment. That being said, you are correct that the Tyvek footprint would be more durable, but at much more weight and less packability.

There are yellow indicators (at the point where the tie-outs are) on the head of the tarp and NetTent to help differentiate the two ends of the shelters.

There are pockets on the interior of the Haven NetTent near where the zippered entrance is. It looks almost like a 'triangle' of the mesh materia.

There are D-rings on the inside of the tarp to be able to connect the tie-outs of the NetTent to the tarp. To use these, you can unhook the corner tie-out of the Haven NetTent and clip it into the D-ring found on the underside of the Haven Tarp canopy near the corner. You can then use the tarp tie-out points for staking both shelters simultaneously.

What I had hoped for

After recently receiving my my SMD Haven Bundle I spend the weekend getting familiar with it. My most recent tent is a Sierra Designs Alpha free standing 3person 3 season and it works well for family or small group trips. I’m planning on the thru hike later this summer and can’t afford the weight or space penalty of the Alpha.

The Haven bundle is what I had hoped it would be. It’s very packable, provides a generous space for me and my equipment, and seems well put together. Using the four section carbon fiber poles allowed me to use my trekking poles at each end for additional headroom. It handled the wind very well across the four days I had it set up. I’m still learning my routine for set up and take down but having the extra poles seems a wise decision for me.Ground thawed across the weekend so restaking was required. I was impressed the way the tarp held against the winds and the net pockets have already been designated for items to find by touch alone.
I know I could have saved a bit more weight with a single wall/single person but this will provide the comfort and security my old body desires. I’m a happy camper.
