⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Designed by hikers, for hikers

"A lot of packs seem to be created by great designers who lack the true depth of hiking experience to understand what features a pack should really have. It is clear that this pack was created by someone who has spent tons of time on the trail. Features like the built in shoulder pockets should be standard on every day pack ever! The pack is also extremely versatile with the ability to pack a lot or a little. Broke the pack in with a 35 mile day on the AT in southern Virginia and had no back pain at all." - Andrew

Great day pack

I love this pack. I purchased the X-Pac VX-21 material version at trail days in Damascus to use for slack packing / light overnight camping. The pack carries a full load comfortably. I carried 17 pounds comfortably in it (food, 2.7 liters water, poop kit, water filter, battery pack, rain jacket, inflatable pad, and shelter for one day and night in tbe woods if needed).

The pack has deep hip pockets for snacks, headlamp, etc. It has a zippered interior pocket with a key loop, so day hikers have a place to secure keys). The stretch shoulder pouches easily hold my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra phone with complete Otter Box case (including the belt clip). The top flap zippered pouch is spacious. My pack had a removable interior pouch for a bladder. The side pouches and front pouch are deep and have flexible material. It even has a built-in chest strap emergency whistle.

The ONLY thing I wish it had is a single Daisy loop high on each shoulder strap, so you could tie a bandana (sweat rag) to. I tie it to the carrying handle. It works, but is a little hard to get to.

I would definitely purchase this pack again.

Patrol pack for miles after miles

As an early customer of Ron's original SMD products, I still love and use the original 19 oz. Moonlight pack. But I've been dismayed as the weight and the features of their packs crept upward over the years.

But as a uniformed volunteer patroller (not quite a ranger) assisting visitors in a large wilderness state park, the Wy'east pack has proven to be the perfect tool for several 12-20 mile day hikes per month. I often need to carry trail work tools, a major first-aid kit, a heavy 2-way radio with spare batteries, my own 10-essentials, and in dry seasons I also need 4-6 liters of water. Though I was an early-adopter of his pack, and in spite of it being lighter than almost anything else of similar volume, it has held up to all of that and shows modest wear. If I do wear it out, I would buy another.

It’s ok

Decent pack. Had it for 14 days. Haven’t put it through the ringer. Could be a bit sturdy backing I guess. Overall, good but overpriced.

Backpack💙💛

Bought the daypack for a trip to NC in March. Why did I buy it? I work in the dungeon sometimes. That’s what I call checked baggage. It’s loud, stressful and sometimes painful when you’re only 4’11” and a 101 pound tool case comes rolling down the belt. I saw a clue backpack in a bin and just before it got sucked into the x-ray I looked at it. Coolest one I had ever seen. Well made. Good material. Just haven’t used it yet. Needs a yellow bandanna. Go Blue(University of Michigan supporter. Lots of space, awesome zippers, cannot wait to use it!
