WickedLite Gear
...Unleash Your Wild Side!
The last few years have seen an explosion of new products for the ultralight
hiker. A whole new class of gear, Super Ultralight (SUL),
has become available for hikers seeking to push base weights down to six,
five or even four pounds for their backpacking trips. Many of these advances
have been achieved through the advent of mixing new exotic ultralight
materials with a further reduction in product features.
At Six Moon Designs, we're renaming Super Ultralight
Gear to WickedLite Gear. In part because it
sounds one hell of a lot cooler. Plus the Wicked in
WickedLite has dual meanings that fits perfectly with the whole
concept of Super Ultralight. On the one hand Wicked
can mean super cool, which one definitely feels when treading down the
trail carrying such a miniscule pack. On the other hand Wicked
is a great definition for what happens if you're caught out in the backcountry
without enough gear to cover your ass when the weather suddenly goes South.
Our WickedLite Gear is definitely oriented for hikers
who possess a full understanding of the core principles of Ultralight
hiking. So if you're interested in this gear, you should be aware of where,
when and how to use this gear. If you lack such knowledge, fortunately
there are numerous web sites and books dedicated to learning about ultralight
hiking. I'd strongly suggest you spend some time getting acquainted with
the principles of Ultralight and WickedLite
hiking before wandering out into the wilderness unprepared.
Traditionally WickedLite gear is made from the lightest
and frequently flimsy materials. Often they're sold as at high prices.
I tend to look at such gear as Yuppy disposable hiking gear. At Six
Moon Designs, our goals aren’t to simply chase after the
absolute lightest components. Instead we're focused on designing WickedLite
Gear that is both feature rich and extends your capabilities
all without sacrificing your comfort, safety or product durability.
We have a number of WickedLite Gear products currently
available, including the Essence
Pack, Gatewood
Cape, and Wild
Oasis shelter. In addition we've got more products on the
drawing boards.
Our Essence Pack is a mere 13 ounces
and has more features, capabilities and carries more weight comfortably
than any other pack in its class. We didn't just strip out weight with
the Essence, we added features that are designed to enhance
its use. We added pockets sized and positioned for convenience and accessibility.
We completely reoriented the pack to make access to your gear easier while
simultaneously providing enhanced weather protection.
Our Gatewood Cape is only 11 ounces
and it completely redefines the concept of a combined shelter/rain gear.
The Gatewood Cape is the only shelter / rain gear option
that provides full 360 Degree Protection. This not only
reduces your load, it makes your backcountry trip more safe and secure.
With the full 360 Degree Protection you stay drier when
hiking because you eliminate the open slits on both sides of your poncho.
Plus when setup as a shelter, you no longer need a bivy to ward off the
rain coming in the open side. A zippered vestibule provides protection
for your gear while making easy to enter and exit your shelter. Because
it's a shaped tarp, The Gatewood Cape is far easier to
setup than your typical tarp.
Used together, the Essence Pack and Gatewood
Cape will supply your pack, shelter and rain gear for a mere
24 ounces. That's a lot of capability for very little weight.
For those interested in an ultralight shelter with bug protection, we've
got the Wild Oasis. Modeled on the Gatewood Cape,
it provides excellent rain and bug protection at a mere 13 ounces.
We hope you enjoy using our WickedLite Gear as much
as we enjoy making it.
