Three words define the Lunar Duo.
| Spacious | This tent is at home in a campground as much as a top a wind swept ridge. It’s large enough for four adults to sit up and play a game of cards. |
| Secure | No matter how bad the weather, you can batten down the hatches for a comfortable nights sleep. Or open both vestibules for fantastic views and excellent cross through ventilation. |
| Ultralight | Lunar Duo offers no compromises despite the fact that it’s less than half the weight of your traditional tent. |
Dual doors and vestibules give each person their own entry. Lunar Duo offers the most interior room of any tent in its class and weight range. Two curved spacer poles on either side create an arched roof with excellent room to sit up and change without constantly annoying your partner. The Lunar Duo's two vestibules can be open fully to create a lot of cross ventilation, thus keeping you cool and those pesky mosquitoes at bay. When closed, you can raise or lower the height vestibule to multiple positions to ensure you've got the right mix of protection, ventilation and view.
This ultralight shelter offers dual doors and vestibules so each person has their own entry. With a height of 45 inches the Lunar Duo offers the most interior room of any tent in it's class and weight range. Two curved spacer poles on either side create an arched roof with excellent room to sit up and change without constantly annoying your partner.
The wide canopy allows for vertical mesh sidewalls, thus eliminating the possibility of rain falling into the tent when you enter or exit. The high and wide canopy combine to generate a significant amount of space. You'll have plenty of room to move around in without bumping into the walls.
Side entry provides room for oversize doors to ease entry and exit from the tent. It allows for oversize vestibules that provide plenty of extra weatherproof storage. A zipper closure of each vestibule keeps tensioning correct. Once open you chose fold back either door depending upon conditions.

![]() | IT WORKS IN ENGLAND TOO ! UK, Bristol 8/22/2009 |
| Chris: Just got back from a trip hiking the Cleveland Way in Northern England and, while we probably didn't have the full gamut of wind, rain, thunder. hail, snow and dragons so typical of the English summer, I can say that we had enough variety to demonstrate to me and my wife that the Lunar Duo is perfectly suited to lightweight backpacking in our UK climate. Wind and rain it shed easily, and really condensation was only noticeable on one night when the pitch was absolutely devoid of any breeze as well as being in a deeply grassed meadow. No problems any way. I used a couple of extra guying points and the tent remained completely stable even when pitched halfway up the side of a valley. Entirely easy to achieve a (more or less) perfect pitch even when tired, and of course the space is palatial for two adults, gear and all. Great tent - durable and practical - and it got more than a few admiring and envious glances from users of other heavier and less spacious shelters en route. Cheers guys ! |

| Lookout: Took the Lunar Duo out for its shakedown cruise over the weekend and I couldn't be more pleased! It is so roomy, we kept remarking on how we could fit our last two lightweight backpacking tents inside it! It kept the mosquitos at bay, we could sit up and both of us could roll up our sleeping pads at the same time without elbowing or kneeing each other. It is very well designed and constructed. I am looking forward to sleeping more in this tent! I really wish I would have had this tent 4 years ago when I thru-hiked the PCT. |

| Mark: I purchased a Lunar Duo at the last minute to replace an MSR Missing Link that had become “sticky” with age. I had just enough time to sleep in it a couple of nights in the back yard before my trip. It did take a few tries to get proficient at setting it up. After a few days I was able to set it up in just a couple of minutes by myself. Pitching the tent tight takes a little practice. The angle of the side guy lines is critical and they must be adjusted each time the tent is set up. I decided not to use a footprint under the tent & it worked out very well. The floor conforms well to the ground & I had no problem with the floor sliding on moderate hills. We were rained on daily and never had a leak.
Condensation is always a consideration with a single wall tent & totally dependent on relative humidity. When using the tent in New Mexico I never had any condensation problems. When using it in Missouri I have condensation every morning but with the more than adequate head room it has never been an issue. Bottom line….as long as you are willing to deal with the condensation issues I don’t believe that there is any better tent currently available. |

| Urs Bachmann: We used the Lunar Duo in 2008 for 7 weeks every night and all over in New Zealand. We liked it very much. Even the weather was mostly fine (not so typical for New Zealand) we also had some bad weather with heavy rain. But we always stayed dry. We loved that airy room very much.
Dear Ron Moak, we wish to have this tarptent as a double wall tent. So we could use them separate and split the (light) weight on two persons. We also could enjoy the stars though the mesh during wonderful clear nights without being bitten by sandflies. And the tarp without mesh would give us on a long walk shelter from rain or sun during lunchtime. |

| Kevin: I first used this tent on a 5 day bike trip and it worked very well. Packed light and set up easily.
The second time I used it, it rained heavily for about 4 hours. Not one drop got inside the tent. It was the only tent in the group that stayed dry.
Great product -- best tent ever. |

| Steve: When the tent arrived my wife gave me grief for ordering another jacket... no I said, it is a tent. Yes, it is that compact and light.
After setting it up for practice in a park a few times I took it on a 3 day hike, camping twice above 2000m with it. The first days were pouring rain and I stayed totally dry with slight condensation on the roof, but no drip, no problems. I was forced to pack it away soaking wet, but on the next night I set it up and let it air out for about 2 hours and it was basically dry once again and comfortable. I love it so much that I have just ordered and received the Lunar single man version and plan on trying it out as soon as I can. A fantastic product and even though in my case they had to send it all the way to Japan, it was received promptly and at a very reasonable delivery rate.
A fantastic tent with a ridiculous amount of room for one or a reasonable amount of room for two... and I am 6 feet 225 pounds... cheers to SMD!!! |

| Michael: I love the design of this tent, and it is obviously well made. I think how well I would rate it completely depends on the circumstances.
Pros: LIGHT, great design, constructed well, if you can open the vestibules it has unparalleled ventilation, VERY spacious (largest 2 man tent I've ever used, and the lightest), fast and easy setup, tension adjustments on all stake sites which makes refining tension very simple. Before you read cons, keep in mind I was on the AT between Roan Mt. and Damascus, VA and didn't always have the best tent sites available, and it rained for 3 consecutive days with only 1 clear day in between another 2 days of rain.
Cons:
Overall this is a good tent. I tried to provide a completely unbiased review based on my observations over a 1 week period of intermittent rain. There isn’t a better tent out there if you know you have a good camp site ahead of you and make sure setup is performed perfectly.
It should also be noted, half way through the trip I called Six Moon to express my concerns to see if they could help, and they were very nice and went through every setup detail and recommended I keep the ends elevated a few more inches rather than 1” off the ground to allow more air flow. The customer service was great, and definitely contributes to the fact I would absolutely shop with them again!

![]() | VERY IMPRESSED: PASSED ALL WEATHER TESTS Honolulu, HI 9/26/2008 |
| Allen: I needed a new tent for an early September Fall backpacking trip to the Wind River Range in Wyoming. I purchased the Lunar Duo after doing some research on ultra light weight 2 person three season tents. I was a bit skeptical about how the tent would hold up in less than ideal conditions, especially considering where I was going! Setting up the tent was and is a breeze, there are several variations to how you can pitch this tent, depending on weather conditions of course (first time took me about 10 minutes, after that maybe 5 or so). For my six day trip into the Winds, we had a night or two of fairly windy conditions (20-30 mph) the first and second night @ 10400' elevation, and the tent held up like a champ. There was a very small amount of condensation on the roof of the tent, but it was very light and not enough to drip. The condensation dried quickly in the morning. My three friends were all impressed with how roomy my tent looked and they could not believe how light and compact the Lunar Duo packed up. The next three days saw intermittent snow. The Lunar Duo help up very well in the light dusting (maybe 3-5 accumulated inches), although I did occasionally knock the the accumulated snow off of the tent roof, as it began to sag in a few places from the weight, but this really wasn't a big issue for me at all. During the three days of intermittent snow, condensation did occur on the tent walls and roof, but I noticed that (on the roof) it tended to drip down the sides of the tent towards the mesh, although there were a few spots where some minor dripping did occur on the tent floor, but this seemed to only happen where the tent roof was sagging from the weight of the snow on it. All in all I was very satisfied with my purchase and how the Lunar Duo held up on trip. Now back in Hawaii - and looking forward to taking this light weight baby on a few local hikes here on Oahu and over on Kauai's Napali Coast!

![]() | STOOD THE TEST Montana 8/18/2008 |
| Glenda: Last summer I did extensive research for the perfect lightweight tent for a 50ish woman. This led me to your two person tent. Although I took it out several times last summer and loved it's design, it's size, and it's weight; I had to reserve judgment until it had passed some more tests. In April two friends and I took it to Canyonlands and it got the wind test. Although we got a fair amount of sand inside, the tent stood up to some terrific winds. After this past week, I'm ready to give it the 5 star rating. Again three of us (sharing one tent) went on a five-day trip through the Beartooth mountains in Montana. The second night a hugh storm blew in and the three of us and all our gear spent 17 hours hunkered down in the tent. It withstood both high winds and accompaning rain. We stayed warm and dry. As I expected from having read others reviews before my purchase it did have a lot of condensation--actually enough to drip occasionally on us. BUT, I'd buy the tent again in a heartbeat. I think all of my backpacking buddies would as well. |
![]() | IT'S AS GOOD AS THE CRITICS PRAISE IT TO BE. NJ 7/11/2008 |
| Ephraim: After receiving the Lunar Duo, I proceeded to set in up in my yard as a test run. It was new to me so it initially took about 15 min to set it up correctly.
It looked nice (gray) the seam sealing was clean, the tent is spacious, both length and height.
A week later I packed it in my sack (compact) and flew to Wyoming for a 5 day stay in the Tetons National Forrest, days 80F, nights 38F. I set up the Lunar Duo without shade upon initial arrival - set-up took 10 min on my second go. I noticed the gray Lunar Duo color took on an almost chameleon effect to the forest colors. It blends into the colors leaving a subtle visual print - which I enjoyed and noted - after set up (standard floor, no ground cloth). First night slept fast and like a baby from travel exhaustion (up 48 hrs). Morning I regretted not setting up under shade (sunlight was bright). Hiked, set up camp day two. Camp set up under pine shade day two. Set up took 7 min. I slept well; tent was spacious for storage, leg room and sitting up. Can fit two people comfortably and is a palace for one at 43oz (standard floor). There was a drop of condensation on inner tent ceiling by morning day two. No water beading just a slight clammy feel. The tent is designed to be able to vent like a very well thought out hard shell jacket. There is venting areas on the floor, at the trekking pole hubs, and full wall and half wall venting options on both sides. With guy lines one can create a practical full vestibule on either or both sides. Perfect cross ventilation when needed. The flaps above the netting can also be rolled up and tied with a practical elastic tie system. Tent hold it own against the fair mountain winds I experienced at 8000 ft. This tent is well thought out, in every aspect, just perfect for one or two hikers. If you desire a lot of extra space this tent has you covered at a mind blowing weight to space ratio (43oz). If it’s a share well you each carry 22oz for a comfortable amount of sleeping/sitting space each, wonderful exit on both sides. Zippers were all smooth operation. I believe in striving for perfection. Here’s what I wished for in the Lunar Duo;
- A dangle in the center of the roof for a lightweight light/headlamp. I’m thinking of making my own with seam tape and elastic.

| Terry: I am thru hiking the A.T. and I just wanted to tell you all how much I like your tent. It has held up in 60 mph winds with out any damage to the tent. Hikers are always asking what kind of tent it is. When they see how much room I have and then I tell them how much it weighs, they are inpressed. Thank you for a good solid tent.

| Greg: I just recently purchased this and brought it with me to Europe for an 8 month tour I'm doing and was the first real Ultralight tent I've ever owned. Saying that, it definately was not what I expected, and after thinking about its features... setting it up with my trekking poles and using it I found it was better than what I expected! Also, customer support from Six Moon Designs is awesome. I was personally called at home and asked if I wanted a couple bucks knocked off the price for one with a hole in the netting (although factory repaired). Very personal customer care. I was taken care of, and the tent also takes more care of me. Definately a repeat customer to this company. Awesome design with auto tension floor, and a million times better than my last tent. Never again will I mess with a bunch of unorganized poles!!! |

| Bill: This has proven to be just the tent that I needed. The first night in it was with our Scoutmaster, we wanted to try it out for Philmont Scout Camp this summer. It went down to 10 or 11 that night. Since then I have used it in rain on at least four occasions. Never a minutes trouble. I had to put it up in the rain a couple of times. That does require practice, doing it quickly and keeping the water out. I haven't set it up tightly the first time yet, always making little adjustments to get it just right. I did punch a hole it the netting, putting a hiking pole in it in the dark. I like the dimensions and it gets lots of looks and comments about the roominess. |

| Kevin: After careful research I decided on the Duo for its great size to weight ratio. Seam sealing was simple and I prefer to do the job myself versus factory sealing. The Duo accompanied me on a section hike of the PCT (Mt Adams and Goat Rocks areas) last fall and withstood wind, rain, sleet and snow. One morning I awoke to a full 1/8" of ice caked on the tent and it didn't even whimper (I think I did though). Setup was easy, even in the dark and the ability to adjust the height with my treking poles was nice. My hiking partners were more than envious of my dry, spacious abode while they fought condensation all week.
In summary, the Duo is the best sil tent I've owned to date and will accompany me on all of my adventures. |

| KiltedWolf: This is one well-engineered design that incorporates the best of both a tent and a tarp. I couldn't believe the amount of living space when I first set this up -- and the design is strong (using hiking poles, which I carry anyway, beats tent poles for strength. I also like field-maintainable gear; with the Lunar Duo, there is no tent pole to lose or break and a branch could be substituted in an emergency. The color is very easy on the eye and low impact. Setup is super quick -- I really like the automatic tensioning of the floor, and the inset head and foot area provide ample ventilation with no chance of rain entering the shelter. All in all, one of the best designs on the market and worth every penny. I'll be a repeat customer to 6MD! |
The Lunar Duo comes standard with a floor of 70 Denier Silicone Nylon. which has many of the properties of traditional tent floors. The Silicone coated floor offers the added advantage of not mildewing or delaminating, as happens with Polyurethane coated floors.
If you select the Ultralight Floor option, additional care should be taken in site selection of your tent. While it's waterproof, your body weight can force water through the floor if it pools under the tent. An additional layer of 3MM plastic cloth placed under the tent can minimize this effect.
